Wine is wonderful. And there are tons of reasons why. From the savory taste to the enhancing your favorite dish, wine is excellent and can make any day a little better. Not just a mood enhancer though, wine also has many health benefits. While there are so many health benefits we are learning that wine has to offer, we’ve listed a few of our favorites for you here.
1.Lowers Risk of Heart Attack
This is especially true for folks who have high blood pressure. Surprisingly, non-wine drinkers who have high blood pressure also have a higher risk of a heart attack than high blood pressure patients who do drink wine. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, moderate drinkers with high blood pressure are 30% less likely to have a heart attack. That’s huge!
2.Lowers Risk of Colon Cancer
Because colon cancer can be such a doozy, this is a big one. Moderate consumption of red wine has proven to cut the risk of colon cancer by as much as 45%! Whoa!
3.Lowers Risk of Heart Disease
Chances of heart disease decline thanks to red wine according to a study completed by Queen Mary University in London.. Red Wine contains an element called procyanidins which can help protect against heart disease.
4.Lowers Chances of Cataracts
Is there anything that wine can’t do? Drinking wine can also help reduce your chances of getting cataracts. Moderate drinkers are 32% less likely to have cataracts than non-drinkers. Even better, wine drinkers are 43% less likely to develop cataracts than beer drinkers. Go ahead and pop that cork - your vision depends on it.
5.Slows Brain Decline
Our favorite health benefit of wine is that it can slow down the process of our declining brains. Columbia University published a study in 2006 that suggests that non-wine drinkers brain function declined at a faster rate than those who drank moderate amounts of wine. I don’t know about you, but anything we can do to slow the aging process sounds good to us!
